Hubert Friedrich Wackermann (b. 1945), born in Solingen, West Germany, is a painter whose lifelong passion for the lives and environments of Native American tribes defines his artistic identity. From his early years, Wackermann immersed himself in anthropological research, spending countless hours in museums and libraries studying Native American culture . In 1969 he embarked on his first study trip to North America, a journey that took him across Canada, the U.S., and Mexico during the 1970s, enabling him to engage directly with tribal communities and absorb authentic cultural knowledge.
Wackermann's technical training is extensive and grounded in classical European art education. He studied watercolor, gouache, silkscreen, and landscape composition at institutions such as the Georg Westermann Printing Office in Braunschweig, the graphic school in Bad Pyrmont, and later the prestigious Art Academy in Düsseldorf, culminating in a Master Student degree and art teaching certification.
After immigrating first to Canada in 1976, where he spent time teaching art on the Six Nations Iroquois Reservation, and then settling in New Mexico by 1980, he continued to refine his craft amid the environments that inspired him. Now based in Marietta, Georgia, Wackermann's dual European-American perspective enriches his art with both technical mastery and vivid narrative authenticity.
